GLAMOROUS IN COQUITLAM

Glamorous in Coquitlam is a home renovation with a drastic before-and-after floor plan. Cooking, my client's passion, guided the direction for the project. A focal wall with a 60 inch range that makes a bold statement was the one critical requirement. The area was challenging with three small rooms.

After much discussion and layout revisions, we decided to open up the space between living and dining rooms by removing three walls. We cladded the supporting columns with wood. By doing so we ended up with a large area in the middle of the kitchen which presented another chalenge: designing the island in a way so it was not disconnected in the large space. The solution was to build an island and a bar table with stools that swivel towards the range and the living room. This created two conversational areas for entertaining which fullfilled the second requirement of ten people.

The aesthetic: Modern meets glamourous, anchored in a classic palette of charcoal gray and white. Glass, quartz, and oak were incorporated to add character and diversity to the otherwise simple colour scheme. White cabinetry was warmed up with white oak and black hardware throughout. The waterfall  countertop added pizzaz to the design.

For the purpose of continuity, we designed a dining table in the same rift oak and clean lines.

The final outcome is a well-functionning kitchen/dining area and an ecstatic client.
